All of us want our property we hunt to be the best it can be! We want to hav more wildlife and the overall quality of that wildlife to be the best it can be. Most of the game we hunt are slaves to two things. Their loins (I ain’t going into to many details) during breeding season and their stomachs. I can control one of those things better than the other! Having an abundance of food on your property for your wildlife is going to help bring and hold them on your ground giving you a better chance when hunting all while improving your hunting ground.

CHOOSING YOUR FOOD PLOT LOCATION

No matter if you have 3 acres or 3,000 acres having food plots is going to give you an advantage as a hunter. When I choose a spot for a food plot a couple factors come to mind. One, where are the deer coming from? Where are they bedding and am I going to be able to draw them from it easily. I don’t want to be right in the deers bedroom. I want to be give them a little room so they don’t feel as pressured by my presence in that bedding area.

The other huge factor for me is access. You may have a great spot for a food plot but the problem is you are going to blow all the game out trying to access the food plot walking in and out. You have defeated yourself before the hunt has even started. So placing the food plot in a place that you can access and then get out of easily is a huge key. So in choosing your location make sure you factor all of these things in to make sure the food plot is all is can be for you!

CHOOSING WHAT TO PLANT

When you start researching all the options on what to plant you can easily get overwhelmed! Their are so many options! Do I go with a forage, turnips, trophy rape, clovers, and so much more! So where do you start? Asking questions is the best place to start! Asking friends and fellow hunters what has worked well for them in your area. And then doing a soil sample and having your soil tested will also help you know what needs to be added to the ground for the soil to reach its maximum potential. But it will also help you identify what types of food plots will thrive in your area. We here are Final Descent Outdoors are proudly partnered with Spot On Food Plots.
